Kid Friendly, Yay!

Finally, some movie reviews that are kid friendly! Exciting, right!?

Mirror Mirror

"One of the most beloved stories of all time is coming to life in the motion picture event for the whole family, Mirror Mirror. A fresh and funny retelling of the Snow White legend, Mirror Mirror features breakout star Lily Collins as Snow White, a princess in exile, and Julia Roberts as the evil Queen who ruthlessly rules her captured kingdom. Seven courageous rebel dwarfs join forces with Snow White as she fights to reclaim her birthright and win her Prince in this magical comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal that will capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences the world over. The film also stars Armie Hammer as the Prince, and Nathan Lane as the hapless and bungling servant to the Queen. "

This movie didn't do very well in theaters, and went to Red Box pretty quickly (bad sign!) so I put off watching it. But ,my interest was perked when I found it was nominated for an Oscar for their costume design. I had a lazy day at home and decided to watch it on Netflix (another bad sign that it was put on Netflix so quick). Maybe my low expectations helped it, but I was really surprised by it. It's a great remake (out of how many remakes that have been coming out recently) with lovely set and costume design. The girl they had play Snow White was really adorable too. If you are not sure what to watch, check it out on Netflix! Also, Armie Hammer is pretty wonderful too! Can't complain... ; )

Oz the Great and Powerful

"Disney's fantastical adventure "Oz The Great and Powerful," directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking-that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great wizard but into a better man as well. When small-time magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) pulls one flimflam too many, he finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must somehow transform himself into the great wizard-and just maybe into a better man as well."

I wasn't really sure what to expect of this one, and wasn't sure about Franco being in this role... But I was pleasantly surprised. If you are wanting to go see something awesome in theaters right now, this is one to see! They did such a great job at adding to such a classic tale, the effects were very awe inspiring and the costumes were gorgeous. The only con was a pretty major plot hole... (Possible Spoiler....) Earlier in the movie the evil witch tracks Oz using a magic orb and watches what he does, but when he starts to plot against her she doesn't see what he's doing with her magic orb....? Uh...? But still good!

The Odd Life of Timothy Green

"Director/writer Peter Hedges brings enchantment to the screen with The Odd Life of Timothy Green, an inspiring, magical story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can't wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim -- and their small town of Stanleyville -- learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life's greatest gifts."

I had put off this movie for a while since I had heard a lot of people say it was very sad, but honestly it was a beautiful story. Jennifer Gardener was one of my absolute top favorite actresses of all time and this story was just too cute. If you are wanting a lovely, heart warming story, watch this movie!
