Getting into Keto

 Some of my top goals for the new year have been more consistent content here on the blog, and taking care of my health. If you may see from my previous posts, I am a huge foodie! But I want to be better about finding a balance in what I eat.

My dad (follow him on Instagram or check out his new blog!) started Keto 3/1/2018 with a starting weight of 311, to his current weight of 239! Last time I flew to Utah for a visit, he was walking up, maybe 6 yards away from me, I actually didn't recognize him at first! He really is looking so good. After being type 2 diabetic for 12 years, his numbers are now considered pre-diabetic! Clearly, he is doing something right!

July 2018 to November 2018

We followed the diet for nearly a solid 2 weeks with minor cheating. We fell off the wagon for a little bit but are now getting back into it. I deal with lots of nausea and acid reflux and almost daily headaches but all that had evaporated when we were sticking to the diet. Honestly, the weight loss is just an added bonus to how good we were feeling! Now that we are getting back into it I have decided I am going to share our journey here! I do bounce back and forth between wanting to just do a low carb diet rather than full-blown Keto, so we will see how this journey goes, but I hope I can provide some good information and yummy recipes for you to enjoy!

We have taken a lot of time to educate ourselves on this diet. With any diet, I think it's important to understand the science behind it, and what you need to do to make sure you are taking care of yourself and doing it in an effective but healthy way. I do not consider myself an expert in this by any means, but want to share what tips and information I have found to be useful.

Bear and I are huge readers and this is what got us really learning about this way of eating. These are the top two books I would recommend to get started;

There are also lots of wonderful sources out there on the world wide web! Here I am linking some of my favorites;

It's a lot of info and can be overwhelming! What I have found to be most helpful is just remember to keep it simple. Listen to your body, eat when you are hungry, track as you go, and if you mess up, don't beat yourself up! Just commit to yourself to be better at the next meal! If you have tried a low carb, or keto diet I would love to hear your thoughts and experience, please comment below! Next, I will be talking about our favorite go-to recipes, so check back for that later this week!
